Selecting a Warm Season Color Palette

Now that I know the results of my PCA, I have been wanting to get back on the Wardrobe Architect wagon and since I am low on Bright Winter-worthy clothing, I cannot help but want to sew something fabulous!

One of the consistent pieces of advice I have found regarding wardrobe planning is to pick and limit the color palette.  Typically, the recommendation is that one should pick two or three neutrals and about two accent colors and that is it.  Ideally, all of the colors should be cohesive and work together as well.  On paper it sounds great and the logical side of me agrees 100%; however, the color-lover in me always immediately rebelled against this idea.  I felt like it would appear that I was wearing the same thing over and over if I did not have a little more variety.

I used Peter Piper's Color Palette Picker to create the following palette for warm weather.  I love the fact that you can select how much of each color to show and I tried to be authentic in the amount of each color I am envisioning in my wardrobe.  Yes, I realize that summer is waning, but I see the development of my wardrobe as a continual process and I am excited to show you what I've been working on this summer.

It looks like a colorful nautical flag, does it not?

As you can see, I have chosen clear navy as my base neutral and white will serve as my lightest neutral.  Cobalt and kelly green are colors that can act as neutrals or accents.  Yellow, fuchsia and red will be accents.

I really am attracted to simple, classic styles.  I like clothing shapes that follow the body but are not overly tight or baggy.  I am not really interested in extremes of any kind.  The occasional ruffle, floral print or use of lace is fine, though.  When I look at the color palette above, along with the clothing types I like, the words "nautical" and "preppy" come to mind and I do admire those style genres.

Ultimately, my goal is have a summer wardrobe represented by the color palette above, but there will be a transition period as I continue to wear some of my current clothing.  For example, prior to my PCA, I had been purchasing ivory and cream instead of white and have some high-quality pieces that I want to continue wearing.  Yes, I realize that they are not the absolute best but are not terrible, either.
