A rustic blanket chest made from rough-sawn boards serves as my coffee table. This chest has a lot of sentimental value to me. The boards were first used in my great-grandfather's barn. When the barn was torn down later, the lumber was reused as wall planking in an addition to the back of my grandmother's home.
When my grandmother's house was torn down, my mom saved some of the old barn lumber. My dad built a blanket chest for me and a bookshelf for her from the salvaged wood.
To make it extra special, Dad even used square head nails. The dark spots are petrified wood resin.
It means so much to me to have a part of my family's history. I feel very connected to my roots.
