Welcome!
Grasshopper Homestead is for the woman who feels drawn to the wisdom of the past, but still has to live faithfully in the responsibilities of the present. Here, we recover old-fashioned homemaking skills, simple household routines, pantry wisdom, rural living principles, and Christian rhythms of stewardship — not to recreate another era, but to build a steadier, more peaceful, more capable home today. This is a place for women who want to slow the hurry, reduce the overwhelm, and cultivate a home that is rooted in grace and ready for real life.

Taco Soup

Taco soup is one of my favorite meals.  It is very easy on the cook and tastes so good.  This recipe was given to my mother by one of her homemaking students.

Taco Soup

1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cans ranch style beans
1 can yellow hominy, undrained
1 can tomatoes with green chiles
1 package taco seasoning mix

1 package ranch dressing mix
tortilla chips
shredded Cheddar cheese

Cook ground beef and onion until brown.  Meanwhile, in a large Dutch oven, combine beans, hominy, tomatoes, taco seasoning, and ranch dressing mix.  Add the cooked beef and onion and heat until bubbly to blend flavors.  Serve with tortilla chips and shredded cheese.
