Welcome!
Grasshopper Homestead is for the woman who feels drawn to the wisdom of the past, but still has to live faithfully in the responsibilities of the present. Here, we recover old-fashioned homemaking skills, simple household routines, pantry wisdom, rural living principles, and Christian rhythms of stewardship — not to recreate another era, but to build a steadier, more peaceful, more capable home today. This is a place for women who want to slow the hurry, reduce the overwhelm, and cultivate a home that is rooted in grace and ready for real life.

Sewing in 2013 – Floral Peplum Jacket

Today I am sharing the first project of 2013, a peplum jacket in printed cotton canvas.  I used New Look 6947 as the pattern.

Changes I made to the pattern include adding a lining and making a bound buttonhole.  I chose a fancy button from my stash to add a little sparkle and style.

The peplum is very popular right now and is very flattering to my shape.

This jacket is actually a pretty easy pattern.  I was able to make it in a weekend.  The cotton fabric in the floral print and the ¾ sleeves make it an easy piece for transitioning to warm weather.
