Spring is in the air and the garden is blooming. There is a very large, very old camellia japonica planted at the back of the carport. I do not know the variety but it has been blooming for several months, as camellias are wont to do.
Another early bloomer, hellebore, can be found by the front porch.
The hyacinths have been showcasing the front yard. This is a lovely white example.
Just in the last few days, the thrift has brought forth a riot of color to the front walk.
The summer snowflakes bring a delicate touch to the garden.
Of course, it would not be spring without daffodils. I have planted a lot of the King Alfred type because I love their sunny color and trumpet shape.
I also planted some Salome daffodil bulbs. The soft peachy-pink cup is a favorite of mine.
These two varieties were already planted here when I moved into the house. I do not know their names. I wonder about who planted them in the past. How long ago was it? What other plants did they have that did not survive the test of time?
Last week, my Ducher china rose began blooming. I really do like this variety. China roses seem to do really well in the East Texas climate.
We have passed the average last frost date for this area, so I risked planting marigolds in the pots by the front walk. The yellows look lovely with all of the yellow daffodils blooming right now.
I love spring! It is so much fun to walk in the garden each day and discover the latest blooming treasure. I noticed iris buds this past weekend and I am very excited to see them bloom. I will share pictures when they do.
