Welcome!
Grasshopper Homestead is for the woman who feels drawn to the wisdom of the past, but still has to live faithfully in the responsibilities of the present. Here, we recover old-fashioned homemaking skills, simple household routines, pantry wisdom, rural living principles, and Christian rhythms of stewardship — not to recreate another era, but to build a steadier, more peaceful, more capable home today. This is a place for women who want to slow the hurry, reduce the overwhelm, and cultivate a home that is rooted in grace and ready for real life.

Kitchen Remodel, Part 5

Another update on the kitchen progress.

The crown moulding and refrigerator cabinet have been painted.  The dining room door casing also has one coat on it.

The scalloped apron, shelves and window have been painted, too.

Do you remember the tongue and groove paneling I salvaged from behind the range?  Well, here it is in all its primed glory on the new wall by the refrigerator.

I think I have briefly mentioned in the past that I collect vintage Homer Laughlin Fiesta dishes.  One of the main goals of this remodel was to create sturdy display space for my collection.  Thus, we added a new shelving unit into the corner where there used to be that odd extra door.  Once we redo the flooring, we will run the baseboard around the perimeter of the cabinet so that it looks like an original built-in.

My dad routed two plate rails into each shelf and also the top before assembling the cabinet.  The shelves are 16" deep to give adequate space for some of the larger pieces in the collection.

And, finally, because I simply could not wait any longer, here is a test patch of the wall paint color!  :-)
