My own sense of dissatisfaction with my previous capsule attempts and this post by Waves have really inspired me lately. I truly cannot remember the last time I went into a store and bought something simply because I was drawn to it and loved the way I looked in it. I have been so focused on looking at clothing for the sake of the capsule instead. I think that we have to find the clothing that REALLY embodies who we are. It is not so much about developing a personal style or brand, but simply wearing clothing that we love, clothing that just feels right. It is almost like meeting and falling in love with one's soulmate after a string of bad romances. Somehow, you just know, and even more alluring than the passion is the comfort, security, and knowledge that he will never let you down and will always take care of you. Your clothing should be like that, too. The most important thing is to be true to your self; consequently, I have spent time thinking about who I am and the lifestyle I lead. Below are some summarizing statements that I have discovered about myself.
· I live in a warm climate and mostly need clothing that can be worn 75% of the year.
· I work in a Business Casual office, but I prefer to put the emphasis on Business rather than Casual.
· My time away from work tends to be very casual. Jeans are my preference in my downtime.
· I like to look polished and put together. I think in terms of coordinating pieces and dislike pops of color or trends like color-blocking.
· I love the classic look of tailored suits. They epitomize the look of competent professionalism to me.
· Fitted, tailored clothing works well on my body shape. I am broad-shouldered and full-busted. If I had to be placed in a body type classification, it would probably be hourglass. I need clothes with a defined waist because clothing hanging loose from my bustline makes me look huge.
· I have a long torso with a high natural waist, so in general, I prefer high-waisted trousers over low-rise pants. In addition, pants need to have wide or flare legs to balance my bust and shoulders.
· I have always liked skirts. I used to buy a few in my high school days but did not wear them much because I spent the entire day answering the question, "Why are you so dressed up?" Rather than answering them boldly, I let their questions eat away at my self-confidence. Now, I wear skirts more than pants.
· I prefer v-necklines.
· In the past, I have always gravitated toward purchasing neutral-colored shoes rather than specific colors. The rule about matching your shoes to your hemline has always stuck with me. It is classic and timeless. Furthermore, neutral shoes are a better value as I get more wear per cost.
After thinking about the types of clothing and colors that I like, I found it easy to go into my closet and weed out the pieces that just are not me.
