Capsule Wardrobes: Visual Inspiration

Visual imagery is strongly linked with a well-coordinated wardrobe.  We are seen in our clothing much the same as any other composition, such as a painting or natural landscape.  Using a composition that we love for color palette inspiration is a great idea.  If you choose an image that you truly love, the colors should, in turn, produce a pleasing effect in your wardrobe.  Thanks to Janice at The Vivienne Files, I learned about this site where you can upload an image and it will generate a color palette for you.

I first decided to search for an Impressionist painting as inspiration.  The following Renoir painting hit me right between the eyes.

Lovely, is it not?  It contains quite a few of those favorite colors I went on about in the last post:  green, apricot, yellow, etc.  When looking at this painting, I have a feeling of cooled-down warmth, if that makes sense.  The overall palette is warm to me, but it does not have the depths of warmth that one might experience in the peak of autumn's splendor.  So, if I load this image into the palette generator, here is what I receive.

Looking at the palette, I can already see great possibilities.  Grays, browns, and taupe as neutrals, my beloved green in variations from olive to sage, and a whole host of warm yellows and apricots to appease my senses.  Add just a touch of muted teal for variety.  Is it possible to build a wardrobe around this palette?  Time will tell.  So, the goal has been set and the sewing machine stands by, ready to assist.
